Lee M. Shavel

President and Chief Executive Officer

Lee M. Shavel is Verisk’s president and chief executive officer (CEO), driving long-term sustainable value for shareholders, customers, and employees. He brings nearly 30 years of experience advising and leading publicly traded companies to Verisk—determining strategies and policies, overseeing financial performance, and furthering company culture.

Lee joined Verisk in 2017 as chief financial officer (CFO). As CFO, he modernized Verisk’s corporate financial operations, including treasury, investor relations, and procurement, and grew the company’s relationships with debt and equity investment communities, including buyside institutional investors and sell-side research analysts. He implemented an enhanced capital discipline process for internal and external capital deployment, extending that philosophy to the company’s operating focus as CEO.

In 2021, Lee also became group president of the company’s energy and financial services groups. In that role, he integrated the business for improved strategic and operating coordination and accelerated investment in the company’s energy data analytics platform.

Before joining Verisk, Lee was Nasdaq, Inc.’s executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2011 to 2016. From 1993 to 2011, he served as managing director, Americas head of Financial Institutions Investment Banking, and other roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Lee holds a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in economics from the Wharton School.

As CEO of Verisk, Lee’s been elected to the company’s board of directors and is on the executive committee. He also serves on the board of directors of FactSet Research Systems and chairs its audit committee. He previously served as a director and chair of the audit committee of Investment Technology Group and served on the board of NJ SEEDS, an educational nonprofit.

Elizabeth Mann

Elizabeth Mann

Chief Financial Officer

As Verisk’s chief financial officer (CFO), Elizabeth Mann drives the company’s financial strategy and capital management philosophy by focusing on creating longterm value and investing in the highest-return opportunities.

Elizabeth joined Verisk from S&P Global, where she was CFO of the Ratings and Mobility divisions, after serving as senior vice president of capital management in S&P Global’s treasury department. Before that, she held several roles of increasing responsibility at Goldman Sachs, including managing director of the firmwide strategy group and the technology, media, and telecom investment banking group.

Before joining corporate America, Elizabeth was Moore Instructor and National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a position once held by famed mathematician John Nash. She’s been published in many outlets, most recently for an article on aviation finance for the Journal of Structured Finance.

Elizabeth holds a PhD in mathematics from the University of Oxford; a certificate of advanced study in mathematics from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Churchill Scholar; and a BS in mathematics from Harvard University, where she graduated magna cum laude.

Her involvement with the Churchill Scholar program continues, as she’s now a board member of the Winston Churchill Scholarship Foundation of the United States.

Neil Spector

Neil Spector

President, Underwriting Solutions

Neil Spector is president of underwriting solutions, driving its transformation in the global insurance industry with underwriting and claims innovations and advanced technologies. Neil leads product management, business development and strategy, sales, and operations, as well as application development, government relations, and finance.

Neil oversees the development of underwriting and rating solutions that use predictive analytics and high-quality data to help improve insurers’ ability to assess risk and improve their financial performance. He’s also responsible for core services and policy programs that most U.S. insurers use to underwrite commercial and personal business, helping them cover the risks policyholders face.

Neil has guided Verisk’s entry into life insurance, leveraging AI and machine learning to drive better business decisions. He also leads global underwriting solutions in the UK and Ireland, including fraud and compliance and medical risk assessment.

Neil heads a national field force that performs on-site commercial building inspections to assess hazards at millions of U.S. properties. He also leads community hazard mitigation teams who administer our municipal fire protection, building code, and flood programs in communities around the country. Previously, Neil served as a vice president and chief sales officer of underwriting solutions at Verisk. Before joining Verisk, he spent 12 years in sales and sales management positions of increasing responsibility with Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Compuware Corporation, and IBM.

Neil holds a BBA in business management and marketing from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Neil is the executive sponsor for leadership initiatives at Verisk, providing guidance and mentorship to employees at all levels.

Bill Churney

Bill Churney

President, Extreme Events Solutions

Bill Churney is president of Verisk’s Extreme Events Solutions team. He’s responsible for setting the team’s global strategy and overseeing its worldwide operations. Bill has extensive experience working with companies to better understand how they manage risk and identify ways to use analytics to improve catastrophe risk management.

In Bill’s 18-year career at Verisk, he’s furthered and led the company’s mission to help businesses and governments proactively plan for and reduce the effects of extreme events. Through this work, Extreme Event Solutions helps society as a whole achieve greater resilience to both immediate and longer-term risks such as climate change.

His roles at Verisk have included senior vice president and chief operating officer, leading business development, marketing, and product development. He has led teams that have significantly increased the use of models in many markets, including in the United States and Latin America. 

Before joining Verisk in 2002, he worked in consulting, technology, and distribution for McMaster-Carr and Charles River Associates. In 2019, ACORD, the global standards-setting body for the insurance industry, named Bill a Top Ten Insurtech Leader based on his vision, execution, and impact in shaping the future of insurance through innovation. 

Bill holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a BA in economics from Haverford College. He’s active at Verisk and in his community on issues related to inclusion, diversity, and civic engagement.

Maroun Mourad

Maroun Mourad

President, Claims Solutions

Maroun Mourad is president of Claims Solutions, overseeing Verisk’s integrated suite of products and services that help improve claims processing, estimating, reporting compliance, valuation, and fraud detection worldwide.

As a data analytics and insurance executive, Maroun has profitably grown businesses in the United States, UK, Europe, and emerging markets since 1998. His focus on team-building, customer-centricity, and delivering quality results has driven business transformations in established, start-up, and turnaround environments.

He’s led teams and businesses in personal and commercial lines spanning multiple customer segments, distribution channels, and cultures. In his previous leadership roles at Gen Re, AIG, Arch, and Zurich, he served clients across underwriting (production and technical), operations, and general management.

Maroun is an industry thought leader, public speaker, volunteer, and mentor whose first book, The Insurance Management Playbook: A Leader’s Guide, was published in 2014.

He holds a JD and a BA in political science, both from the University of California, Berkeley. He’s also completed several executive education programs, including the AIG Mini-MBA at the Columbia Business School and the Zurich Executive Leadership Program at the London Business School.

Maroun is a board member for the northeast division of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, a volunteer with New York Cares, and an advisory board member of the NOMI Network, a global nonprofit that supports economic development to fight human trafficking.

Tom Famularo

Tom Famularo

Managing Director, Life Solutions

Tom Famularo is head of life insurance at Verisk and managing director of Verisk’s FAST platform for digital transformation in life insurance and annuities. He’s responsible for all aspects of growth, profitability, technology vision and roadmap, and customer satisfaction for life insurance. He also advises other areas of the company on tech/platform roadmaps.

Tom has helped Verisk customers reduce operational costs by more than 60 percent and IT costs by more than 75 percent while helping them transform their product, digital engagement, and future-proofing and speed up product introduction by 80 percent. Tom has personally worked with more than 30 insurance carriers to help transform their technology from legacy to future.

Tom co-founded FAST in 2010 and served as CEO, growing the business from zero to $35 million until Verisk acquired FAST in 2019. Since joining Verisk, Tom has exceeded his department’s five-year business growth goals in three years.

Before co-founding FAST, Tom was the head of Product Development at NaviSys, which was acquired by Accenture. Earlier in his career, he worked for Citistreetfor 5 years as a software developer.

Tom was a runner-up for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2015.

He studied computer science at Rutgers University before starting his first tech company.

Tom is on the board and an active investor/mentor for multiple companies, including a pharmaceutical testing company and a retail toy mobile app. He’s an advisor to private equity and investment banking firms for both pure tech and insurance technology companies.

Matt Lohman

Matt Lohman

Managing Director, Marketing Solutions

Matt Lohman is managing director for Marketing Solutions at Verisk, a team that was formed from Verisk’s acquisitions of Jornaya, Contact State, and Infutor. His career has focused on subscription data and applications enabled by the continued rise of the internet and digitization.

Marketing Solutions provides insurance companies with a complete, actionable data asset for driving personalized marketing interactions that deliver more profitable and compliant customer acquisition, expansion, and retention.

Matt was a key member of the executive team at Jornaya prior to its acquisition by Verisk in 2020, when the company achieved double-digit growth in the preceding months. Since the Jornaya acquisition, he’s overseen the subsequent acquisitions of Contact State and Infutor.

Prior to joining Jornaya, Matt held numerous positions within Oracle’s Marketing Cloud team, which also grew substantially from acquisitions and possession of unique capabilities.

He’s been interviewed by industry media and presented at conferences on the topic of marketing data and technology.

Matt holds an MBA with a focus in business analysis from Georgia State University and a BBA from the University of Notre Dame.

A former musician and audio engineer with an associate’s degree in recording engineering from Full Sail University, Matt still dabbles in musical performance. He volunteers at the local high school assisting with audio and video productions for sports events.

Tim Rayner

Tim Rayner

President, Specialty Business Solutions

As president of Specialty Business Solutions at Verisk, Tim Rayner drives deliberate, disciplined design and delivery of experiences to clients and team members. He works to increase understanding and create connections between these two groups while advocating for the integration they require, technical or otherwise.

Tim champions clients’ and team members’ perspectives in the company’s strategic decision-making and measures the impact of these groups’ experiences on the company’s performance.

He has board-level responsibility for the team’s relationships with Lloyd’s, the Future @ Lloyd’s, and large strategic accounts; Tim is also playing an instrumental part in the team’s global expansion.

Tim became Specialty Business Solutions’ chief executive officer in July 2022, having served as chief experience officer since 2021. He joined the company in 2018 as business development director.

Before joining Verisk, he spent 18 years in technology and operations on the broker side of the London Market at Miller Insurance Services, specializing in the coverholder space and architecting London’s first real-time bordereau data exchange in 2007. He began as a software developer at Miller, before moving on to head up IT, Business Change, Business Transformation & Technology, and Group Operations.

Tim’s articles on how technology can drive efficiencies through distribution chains have been published in London-based insurance publications. His team at Miller won an Insurance Day award in 2008 for real-time delegated authority management.

Tim has completed the Lloyd’s Leadership Programme at the London Business School and is certified as a Forrester CX Champ.

He’s been chairman of the Halstead Swimming Club since 2016.
